Stand Firm

Ephesians 6:11-13 New King James Version (NKJV) 11  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  12  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, [ a ]  against spiritual  hosts  of wickedness in the heavenly  places.   13  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Together in Him

Ephesians 2:4-8 New King James Version (NKJV) 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

The Bread of Life

John 6:26-27 Good News Translation (GNT) 26  Jesus answered, “I am telling you the truth: you are looking for me because you ate the bread and had all you wanted, not because you understood my miracles.  27  Do not work for food that spoils; instead, work for the food that lasts for eternal life. This is the food which the Son of Man will give you, because God, the Father, has put his mark of approval on him.”

Perfect Peace

Isaiah 26:3-4 New Living Translation (NLT) 3  You will keep in perfect peace      all who trust in you,      all whose thoughts are fixed on you! 4  Trust in the  Lord  always,      for the  Lord God  is the eternal Rock.

His constant love...

Jeremiah 31:1-3 Good News Translation (GNT) Israel's Return Home 31 The Lord says, “The time is coming when I will be the God of all the tribes of Israel, and they will be my people. 2 In the desert I showed mercy to those people who had escaped death. When the people of Israel longed for rest, 3 I appeared to them[a] from far away. People of Israel, I have always loved you, so I continue to show you my constant love.

The Long Road

"It had been a long road for Joseph; it had been a desperately rough road too. There was the slimy pit, the brothers' treachery, the slave chains, the terrible place temptation, and the prison cell. But what a different ending this story has: "And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, see, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt...only in the throne will I  be greater than thou". And can you hear Joseph speaking to his brethren: "God meant it unto good...to save much people alive." - Springs in the Valley (August 27)

Let Go...

“When you are in troubled and worried and sick at heart And your plans are upset and your world falls apart, Remember God's ready and waiting to share The burden you find much to heavy to bear-- So with faith, "Let Go and Let GOD" lead your way Into a brighter and less troubled day”   ―  Helen Steiner Rice

Only With Him...

Wait...

"O, tarry thou His leisure, Praise when He seems to pause, Nor think that the eternal One, Will set His clock by yours; But wait His time, and trust His date, It cannot be too soon, or late." - Springs in the Valley, 1939

A Little Faith...

“Sometimes beautiful things come into our lives out of nowhere. We can't always understand them, but we have to trust in them. I know you want to question everything, but sometimes it pays to just have a little faith.”  ―  Lauren Kate *Photograph copyright 2012 R. Harriott

For Us...

Psalm 20:1-5 New International Version (NIV) Psalm 20 [ a ] For the director of music. A psalm of David. 1  May the  Lord  answer you when you are in distress;       may the name of the God of Jacob  protect you.  2  May he send you help  from the sanctuary       and grant you support  from Zion.  3  May he remember  all your sacrifices      and accept your burnt offerings. [ b ]   4  May he give you the desire of your heart       and make all your plans succeed.  5  May we shout for joy  over your victory      and lift up our banners  in the name of our God. May the  Lord  grant all your requests.

Face the Day

"More courage is required when coming to grips with the common-place problems of the ordinary day than is required to face the batteries of destruction on a field of military conflict." - Springs in the Valley (24th August)

Ephesians 3:14-19 (GNT)

The Love of Christ 14 For this reason I fall on my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its true name. 16 I ask God from the wealth of his glory to give you power through his Spirit to be strong in your inner selves, 17 and I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love, 18 so that you, together with all God's people, may have the power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, is Christ's love. 19 Yes, may you come to know his love—although it can never be fully known—and so be completely filled with the very nature of God.

By Faith

Hebrews 11:1-11 New Living Translation (NLT) Great Examples of Faith 11  Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.   2  Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. 3  By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. 4  It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks to us by his example of faith. 5  It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—“he disappeared, because God took him.” [ a ] For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God.   6  And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to ...

Deep Desires

Philippians 1:20-26 Good News Translation (GNT) 20  My deep desire and hope is that I shall never fail in my duty, but that at all times, and especially right now, I shall be full of courage, so that with my whole being I shall bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. 21  For what is life? To me, it is Christ. Death, then, will bring more. 22  But if by continuing to live I can do more worthwhile work, then I am not sure which I should choose. 23  I am pulled in two directions. I want very much to leave this life and be with Christ, which is a far better thing; 24  but for your sake it is much more important that I remain alive. 25  I am sure of this, and so I know that I will stay. I will stay on with you all, to add to your progress and joy in the faith, 26  so that when I am with you again, you will have even more reason to be proud of me in your life in union with Christ Jesus.

Daily Surrender

"When we surrender our old nature to God that He may carry out the death sentence pronounced upon it, He accepts it in the only way He ever accepted a sacrifice, by turning it to ashes. And where the fire has been there springs from the ashes of the old life the fire lily of the beauty of Christ. As more ground is daily yielded, on the fire-swept hills of our inner life will be wrought the miracle of life out of death, and the bare slopes will burst with blossom. One unburnt hill will mean a jungle growth of grass and weeds; one valley spared will mean less Christfulness. This is the law of God - both natural and spiritual - no fire, no fire lily; no ashes, no beauty . This is the secret of the fire lily. This is the meaning of surrender ." - P.E. Sharp

Courage in His Presence

1 John 3:19-24 Good News Translation (GNT) Courage before God   19  This, then, is how we will know that we belong to the truth; this is how we will be confident in God's presence. 20  If our conscience condemns us, we know that God is greater than our conscience and that he knows everything. 21  And so, my dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, we have courage in God's presence. 22  We receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. 23   What he commands is that we believe in his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as Christ commanded us. 24  Those who obey God's commands live in union with God and God lives in union with them. And because of the Spirit that God has given us we know that God lives in union with us.

Following Him...

John 10:4 New King James Version (NKJV) 4  And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

An Anchor for the Soul...

Hebrews 6:9-19 (NKJV) A Better Estimate 9 But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. 10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of[a] love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. God’s Infallible Purpose in Christ 13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”[b] 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16 For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. 17 Thus God, determining to show more ...

In Every Detail...

Psalm 37:23-24 New Living Translation (NLT) The  Lord  directs the steps of the godly.      He delights in every detail of their lives.   Though they stumble, they will never fall,      for the  Lord  holds them by the hand. *Photograph copyright 2012 R. Harriott

Given In Faith

1 Kings 3:4-15 NKJV Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that  was  the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask! What shall I give you? And Solomon said: You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as  it is  this day. Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I  am  a little child; I do not know  how  to go out or come in. And Your servant  is  in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evi...

God's Promises

Never Forgotten

Genesis 8:1 New International Version (NIV) 8  But God remembered  Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth,  and the waters receded.

He Listens

Psalm 6:9 New King James Version (NKJV) The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will receive my prayer.

Be Still...

In every life There's a pause that is better than onward rush, Better than hewing or mightiest doing; 'Tis the standing still at Sovereign will. There's a hush that is better than ardent speech, Better than sighing or wilderness crying; 'Tis being still at Sovereign will. The pause and the hush wing a double song In unison low and for all time long. O human soul, God's working plan Goes on, nor needs the aid of man! Stand still and see! Be still and know! - Springs in the Valley (August 16)

Only He Knows

Acts 1:7-8 New Century Version (NCV)   7  Jesus said to them,  "The Father is the only One who has the authority to decide dates and times. These things are not for you to know.  8  But when the Holy Spirit comes to you, you will receive power. You will be my witnesses—in Jerusalem, in all of Judea, in Samaria, and in every part of the world."

John 14:1-3 (NKJV)

The Way, the Truth, and the Life 14 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions;[a] if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.[b] 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Trust Him

"If God can bring blessing from the broken body of Jesus and glory from something that's as obscene as the cross, He can bring blessing from my problems and my pain and my unanswered prayer. I just have to trust Him." - Anne Graham Lotz

To Wait in Faith

"Many a time we pray and are prone to interpret God's silence as a denial of our petitions; whereas in truth, He only defers their fulfilment until such time as we ourselves are ready to co-operate to the full in His purposes. Prayer registered in heaven is prayer dealt with, although the vision still tarries." - Dr Stuart Holden

All for Us

Philippians 2:6-11 GNT He always had the nature of God, but he did not think that by force he should try to remain equal with God. Instead of this, of his own free will he gave up all he had, and took the nature of a servant. He became like a human being and appeared in human likeness. He was humble and walked the path of obedience all the way to death— his death on the cross. For this reason God raised him to the highest place above and gave him the name that is greater than any other name. And so, in honor of the name of Jesus all beings in heaven, on earth, and in the world below will fall on their knees, and all will openly proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Dwell in the land...

Psalm 37:3-11 New King James Version (NKJV) 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. 7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the Lord, They shall inherit the earth. 10 For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. 11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Not Alone

John 14:16-17 Good News Translation (GNT) 16  I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. 17  He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God. The world cannot receive him, because it cannot see him or know him. But you know him, because he remains with you and is [ a ]  in you. John 14:27 Good News Translation (GNT)   27  Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.

Faith in all places...

He Will Ring True

Whatever life may bring to you, "God" will ring true to you; Star in your sky- Food in your store- Staff in your hand- Friend by your side- Light on your path- Joy in your heart- In your ears music- In your mouth songs. Yes, rapid as your race may run, And scorching as may shine your sun, And bitter as may blow your blast, And lonely as your lot be cast- Whatever life may bring to you, "God will aye ring true to you.                                     - Charles Herbert

Our Purpose...

Psalm 20 (NKJV) The Assurance of God’s Saving Work To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. 20 May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you; 2 May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion; 3 May He remember all your offerings, And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah 4 May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, And fulfill all your purpose. 5 We will rejoice in your salvation, And in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions. 6 Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven With the saving strength of His right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God. 8 They have bowed down and fallen; But we have risen and stand upright. 9 Save, Lord! May the King answer us when we call.

He Goes Before Us

Deuteronomy 1:30-33 NIV The Lord  your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord  your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place." In spite of this, you did not trust in the Lord  your God, who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day, to search out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go. Isaiah 33:17-24

The Land of the Majestic King 17 Your eyes will see the King in His beauty; They will see the land that is very far off. 18 Your heart will meditate on terror: “Where is the scribe? Where is he who weighs? Where is he who counts the towers?” 19 You will not see a fierce people, A people of obscure speech, beyond perception, Of a stammering tongue that you cannot understand. 20 Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts; Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet home, A tabernacle that will not be taken down; Not one of its stakes will ever be removed, Nor will any of its cords be broken. 21 But there the majestic Lord will be for us A place of broad rivers and streams, In which no galley with oars will sail, Nor majestic ships pass by 22 (For the Lord is our Judge, The Lord is our Lawgiver, The Lord is our King; He will save us); 23 Your tackle is loosed, They could not strengthen their mast, They could not spread the sail. Then the prey of great plunder is...

Our Shepherd

Psalm 28:7-9 NIV The Lord  is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. The Lord  is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever. What is to Come

John 16:12-13 NIV "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.  But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

His Purpose

Job 42:1-6 New International Version (NIV) 42 Then Job replied to the Lord: 2 “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. 4 “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’ 5 My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. 6 Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”

The Way We Should Pray

Matthew 6:9-13 New King James Version (NKJV) 9  In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10  Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as  it is  in heaven. 11  Give us this day our daily bread. 12  And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13  And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

The Corners of Our Way...

This morning Lord I pray Safeguard us through the day, Especially at corners of the way. For when the way is straight We fear no sudden fate, But see ahead the evening's open gate. But far and few between Are days when all are seen Of what will come, or yet of what has been. For unexpected things Swoop down on sudden wings And overthrow us with their buffetings. And so, dear Lord, we pray, Control and guard this day Thy children at the corners of their way. - 'Corners' by M. G. L *Photograph copyright R. Harriott 2012

I will hope...

Psalm 71:14-21 New King James Version (NKJV) 14 But I will hope continually, And will praise You yet more and more. 15 My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And Your salvation all the day, For I do not know their limits. 16 I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only. 17 O God, You have taught me from my youth; And to this day I declare Your wondrous works. 18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come. 19 Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high, You who have done great things; O God, who is like You? 20 You, who have shown me great and severe troubles, Shall revive me again, And bring me up again from the depths of the earth. 21 You shall increase my greatness, And comfort me on every side.

The Foundation has been Laid

Ezra 3:11 NKJV And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord: For  He is  good, For His mercy  endures  forever toward Israel. Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

That He Should Care For Us...

Psalm 8 Good News Translation (GNT) God's Glory and Human Dignity [ a ]         O Lord, our Lord,       your greatness is seen in all the world!    Your praise reaches up to the heavens;   2   it is sung by children and babies.    You are safe and secure from all your enemies;       you stop anyone who opposes you.   3  When I look at the sky, which you have made,       at the moon and the stars, which you set in their places—   4   what are human beings, that you think of them;       mere mortals, that you care for them?   5   Yet you made them inferior only to yourself; [ b ]       you crowned them with glory and honor.   6   You appointed them rulers over everything you made;       you p...

In due season...

Psalm 104:19-28 New King James Version (NKJV) 19 He appointed the moon for seasons; The sun knows its going down. 20 You make darkness, and it is night, In which all the beasts of the forest creep about. 21 The young lions roar after their prey, And seek their food from God. 22 When the sun rises, they gather together And lie down in their dens. 23 Man goes out to his work And to his labor until the evening. 24 O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions— 25 This great and wide sea, In which are innumerable teeming things, Living things both small and great. 26 There the ships sail about; There is that Leviathan Which You have made to play there. 27 These all wait for You, That You may give them their food in due season. 28 What You give them they gather in; You open Your hand, they are filled with good.

Guarded by the Lord

Psalm 121:1-8 NCV I look up to the hills, but where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord , who made heaven and earth. He will not let you be defeated. He who guards you never sleeps. He who guards Israel never rests or sleeps. The Lord  guards you. The Lord  is the shade that protects you from the sun. The sun cannot hurt you during the day, and the moon cannot hurt you at night.
