Rest for the Soul

Psalm 62:1-2 MSG God, the one and only— I’ll wait as long as he says. Everything I need comes from him, so why not? He’s solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul, An impregnable castle: I’m set for life.

From Heaven

Psalm 33:13-15 New King James Version (NKJV) 13  The  Lord  looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. 14  From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; 15  He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works.

Transformed

Romans 12:1-2 The Message (MSG) Place Your Life Before God 12 1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Dream On

God's Own Time

"Through the dark and stormy night Faith beholds a feeble light Up the blackness streaking; Knowing God's own time is best, In a patient hope I rest For the full day-breaking!" - John Greenleaf Whittier

Lift Up Your Eyes

Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has  created  these  things,  Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of  His  power; Not one is missing.

Mighty Strength

Ephesians 1:18-21 New International Version (NIV) 18  I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened   in order that you may know the hope to which he has called   you, the riches   of his glorious inheritance   in his holy people,   19  and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power   is the same as the mighty strength   20  he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead   and seated him at his right hand   in the heavenly realms,   21  far above all rule and authority, power and dominion,   and every name   that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

The Anchor

The Creator

Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has  created  these  things,  Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing.

The Will of God

Hebrews 10:35-36 New King James Version (NKJV) Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.   For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise...

Walk with Him

Psalm 89:15-16 English Standard Version (ESV) 15  Blessed are the people who know   the festal shout,      who walk, O   Lord , in   the light of your face, 16  who exult in your   name all the day      and in your righteousness are   exalted.

Thankful

In every situation... be thankful.

Our Strength

Exodus 15:2 English Standard Version (ESV) 2  The   Lord   is my strength and my   song,      and he has become   my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him,      my father's God, and   I will exalt him.

Don't Ever Quit

Psalm 22:25-26 The Message (MSG) 25-26  Here in this great gathering for worship      I have discovered this praise-life. And I’ll do what I promised right here      in front of the God-worshipers. Down-and-outers sit at  God ’s table      and eat their fill. Everyone on the hunt for God      is here, praising him. “Live it up, from head to toe.      Don’t ever quit!”

An Important Role

Philippians 1:21-26 KJV For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith; That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

His Challenges

"Difficulties and obstacles are God's challenges to faith. When hindrances confront us in the  path  of duty, we are to recognize them as vessels for faith to fill with the fullness and all-sufficiency of Jesus." - A.B. Simpson

Courage

Worries into Prayers

Philippians 4:6-7 The Message (MSG) 6-7  Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Back to God

"We are to enter into God's chamber, and hide there, and be still. Then God will God will call us the "quiet in the land". Have this stamp upon you. Be quiet outside - you will then be quiet inside. Be quiet in spirit. Beware of soul activities. The dross must be burned out to have the mountain vision. We must get back to God only, and cease to see human instruments. Hide deeper in God. he must be real - more and more real!" - Springs in the Valley (September 19)

In Search of Him

Good Things

James 1:17 New International Version (NIV) 17  Every good and perfect gift is from above,  coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,  who does not change  like shifting shadows.

My Soul...

Psalm 42:1-2 New King James Version (NKJV) As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. 2  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

His Love

"You can’t earn God’s love. You can only turn towards God love." - Ann Voskamp

The Gift of Hope

"Hope is a glad confidence that God will be true to his character and his promises. Whatever we may endure now, we know God will be with us. Whatever life throws at us now, we know that God can work it for good. However dark our present circumstances may be, we know our future eternity is assured." - David Reay

Mark the road...

Jeremiah 31:20-22 Good News Translation (GNT) 20  “Israel, you are my dearest child,      the one I love best. Whenever I mention your name,      I think of you with love. My heart goes out to you;      I will be merciful. 21  Set up signs and mark the road;      find again the way by which you left. Come back, people of Israel,      come home to the towns you left. 22  How long will you hesitate, faithless people? I have created something new and different,      as different as a woman protecting a man.”

Trust

Romans 15:13 NLT I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Be Brave

In All Things...

Psalms 30:9-12 NLT “What will you gain if I die, if I sink into the grave? Can my dust praise you? Can it tell of your faithfulness? Hear me, lord , and have mercy on me. Help me, O lord .” You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!

To See

"Faith is the radar that sees through the fog." - Corrie Ten Boom

Stripped

"The only way to Jesus is alone. Will you strip yourself and separate yourself and take that lonely road, or will you 'go away sorrowful'?" - Springs in the Valley (September 12)

Psalm 23

The  Lord  the Shepherd of His People A Psalm of David. 23  The  Lord   is  my shepherd; I shall not want. 2  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3  He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You  are  with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the  Lord Forever.

Reach Out...

'There is a Hand stretched out to you; a Hand with a wound in the palm of it. Read out the hand of your faith to clasp it, and cling to it, for "without faith it is impossible to please God"' - Henry Van Dyke

My Strength

Psalm 22  New International Version (NIV) But you,  Lord , do not be far from me.      You are my strength;  come quickly  to help me.

Think of Others

Philippians 2:3-4 New Living Translation (NLT) 3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

Never Forget

"If God has been pleased to use me in any fuller measure, it has been because of that hour. And it will be still, in the measure in which that hour is made the keynote of a consecrated, crucified, and Christ-devoted life. This experience of Christ our Sanctifier, marks a definite crisis in the history of a soul. We do not grow into it, but we cross a definite line of demarcation, as clear as when the hosts of Joshua crossed the Jordan and were over in the Promised Land, and set up a great heap of stones, so that they could never forget the crisis hour." - A. B. Simpson

A Better Hope

Hebrews 7:19 New Living Translation (NLT) 19  For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

Greater Love

"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater." - J.R.R. Tolkien

Walking with God

Psalm 128 English Standard Version (ESV) 128 Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord,     who walks in his ways! 2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands;     you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine     within your house; your children will be like olive shoots     around your table. 4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed     who fears the Lord. 5 The Lord bless you from Zion!     May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem     all the days of your life! 6 May you see your children's children!     Peace be upon Israel!

As long as life lasts...

Hebrews 6:10-11 New Living Translation (NLT) 10  For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.   11  Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.

Home With Him

Trust

With Christ, we can fly...

Bearing the Scars

Galatians 6:15-17 New Living Translation (NLT) 15  It doesn’t matter whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation.   16  May God’s peace and mercy be upon all who live by this principle; they are the new people of God. [ a ] 17  From now on, don’t let anyone trouble me with these things. For I bear on my body the scars that show I belong to Jesus.

Glorious Hope

Ephesians 4:4-6 New Living Translation (NLT) 4  For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. 5  There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6  one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.

Boldly...

Hebrews 4:16 New Living Translation (NLT) 16  So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Hold Firmly

"We can be sure that whatever God says, will happen. The divine Word has always been fulfilled, is always fulfilled and will always be fulfilled. Nations come go and but God's word endures forever. Hold firmly to it!" - Selwyn Hughes

Today

Hebrews 4:6-7 New Living Translation (NLT) 6  So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God.   7  So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: “Today when you hear his voice,      don’t harden your hearts.”

The Right Path

Proverbs 22:6 New Living Translation (NLT) 6  Direct your children onto the right path,      and when they are older, they will not leave it.

His Steps

"We often make a great mistake thinking that God is not guiding us at all, because we cannot see far ahead. But He only undertakes that the steps of a good man should be ordered by the Lord; not next year, but tomorrow; not for the next mile, but the next yard: as you will acknowledge when you review it from the hilltops of Glory." - Springs in the Valley (September 1)

Hope

Hebrews 10:23 New Living Translation (NLT) 23  Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
