Thanks To God

Psalm 92 Good News Translation (GNT) A Song of Praise [ a ] 92  How good it is to give thanks to you, O Lord ,      to sing in your honor, O Most High God, 2  to proclaim your constant love every morning      and your faithfulness every night, 3  with the music of stringed instruments      and with melody on the harp. 4  Your mighty deeds, O Lord , make me glad;      because of what you have done, I sing for joy. 5  How great are your actions, Lord !      How deep are your thoughts! 6  This is something a fool cannot know;      someone who is stupid cannot understand: 7  the wicked may grow like weeds,      those who do wrong may prosper; yet they will be totally destroyed, 8       because you, Lord , are supreme forever. 9  We know that your enemies will die,  ...

His Creation

"It's not about being religious; it's about being exactly who God created us to be and doing what he created us to do. That's all that is asked of us." - Take My Heart, O God, Oct 31.

Confident Prayer

"We should be careful about what we ask from God; but when once we begin to pray for a thing we should never give up praying for it until we receive it, or until God makes it very clear and definite that it is not His will to grant it." - R.A. Torrey

All Your Dreams...

"Father, may all your dreams come true. I don't want to get in the way or hinder You from fulfilling any of the plans You had for me when You dreamed me into being." - Robin Jones Gunn

His Hand Upon Us

'We are continually retreating behind our limitations and saying, "Thus no farther can I go." God is ever laying His hand upon us and thrusting us out into the own saying, "You can be more than you are; you must be more than you are." -Springs in the Valley, 297.

More To Come...

Wait on the Promise

2 Peter 3:11-13 The Message (MSG) 11-13 Since everything here today might well be gone tomorrow, do you see how essential it is to live a holy life? Daily expect the Day of God, eager for its arrival. The galaxies will burn up and the elements melt down that day—but we’ll hardly notice. We’ll be looking the other way, ready for the promised new heavens and the promised new earth, all landscaped with righteousness.

His Promise Stands

"If you struggle with the truth of God's timing, then here's something you have got to get a hold of - you may not live to see God's time completely fulfilled. You may live beyond the allotted threescore years and ten, attain many of your personal goals and ambitions and yet die before the completion of God's purposes. But His promise stands - He will make everything beautiful in its time. You see, our problem is that we get our attention focused on the wrong things. We see the strange-looking cocoon; God sees the finished butterfly. We see the ugly strands; He sees the finished design. We see today - He sees tomorrow." - Selwyn Hughes

Made Complete

2 Timothy 3:16-17 New King James Version (NKJV) 16  All Scripture  is  given by inspiration of God, and  is  profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,  17  that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Persistent Prayer

"We should be careful about what we ask from God; but when once we begin to pray for a thing we should never give up until we receive it, or until God makes it very clear and definite that it is not His will to grant it." - R. A Torrey

By Faith

2 Corinthians 4:16 New Century Version (NCV) Living by Faith   16  So we do not give up. Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day.

Psalm 91 (King James Version)

91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his a...

Peace

"I dare not promise, Lord," I cried, "For future years close-sealed. Surrender is a fearful thing - I long - but dare not yield." How clear and swift the answer came: "I only ask of thee S present of Thyself for time And for eternity." An easy thing to make a gift! My fears found swift release. I gave myself to Him, and found Past understanding, peace.         - Springs in the Valley (October 22)

Comfort in Hardship

"The brightest souls which glory ever knew were rocked in storms and nursed when tempests blew." - Springs in the Valley, 294

Our Parts in Service

1 Samuel 30:23-25 New King James Version (NKJV) 23 But David said, “My brethren, you shall not do so with what the Lord has given us, who has preserved us and delivered into our hand the troop that came against us. 24 For who will heed you in this matter? But as his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays by the supplies; they shall share alike.” 25 So it was, from that day forward; he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.

Pure Desire

Up the hill, to the whiter than snow-shine, Help me to climb, and dwell in pardon's light. I must be pure as Thou, or ever less Than Thy design of me - therefore incline My heart to take men's wrongs as Thou tak'st mine. - Springs in the Valley (October 21)

Wisdom

Job 28:12-28 New International Version (NIV) 12  But where can wisdom be found?      Where does understanding dwell? 13  No mortal comprehends its worth;      it cannot be found in the land of the living. 14  The deep  says, “It is not in me”;      the sea  says, “It is not with me.” 15  It cannot be bought with the finest gold,      nor can its price be weighed out in silver. 16  It cannot be bought with the gold of Ophir,      with precious onyx or lapis lazuli. 17  Neither gold nor crystal can compare with it,      nor can it be had for jewels of gold. 18  Coral  and jasper  are not worthy of mention;      the price of wisdom is beyond rubies. 19  The topaz  of Cush  cannot compare with it;      it cannot be bought with pure gold. 20  Wher...

Patience, Faith and Love

James 1:4 (NKJV) But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. “Faith is the cure that heals all troubles. Without faith there is no hope and no love. Faith comes before hope, and before love.” ― Paul Torday, Salmon Fishing In The Yemen

A Firm Foundation

"No one is immune to tragedy in this life. The house is the same, the storm is the same, but what makes the difference is the foundation." - Lisa Beamer, 'Take My Heart, O God'

New Treasures

Ecclesiastes 3:15 New International Version (NIV) 15  Whatever is has already been,      and what will be has been before;      and God will call the past to account. If on our daily course our mind Be set to hallow all we find New treasures still of countless price God will provide for sacrifice. - John Keble

He Loves Us

Matthew 18:12-13 New King James Version (NKJV) 12  “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? 13  And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that  sheep  than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.

All of Thee

"Higher than the highest heavens, Deeper than the deepest sea, Lord, Thy love at last hath conquered; Grant me now my supplication, None of self, and all of Thee." - Springs in the Valley, 290

Hope in Him

A Hard Thing

"There is a curious comfort in remembering that the Father depends upon His child not to give way. It is inspiring to be trusted with a hard thing." - Springs in the Valley, 288.

Staying with God

Hebrews 5:11-14 The Message (MSG) 11-14  I have a lot more to say about this, but it is hard to get it across to you since you’ve picked up this bad habit of not listening. By this time you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one—baby’s milk, when you should have been on solid food long ago! Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God’s ways; solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong.

For His Purpose

Romans 6:13 New Century Version (NCV) 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to serve sin, as things to be used in doing evil. Instead, offer yourselves to God as people who have died and now live. Offer the parts of your body to God to be used in doing good.

Ever With Us

Psalm 119:97-98 New King James Version (NKJV) 97  Oh, how I love Your law! It  is  my meditation all the day. 98  You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they  are  ever with me.

Love Never Fails

"Love God and He will enable you to love others  even when they disappoint you."  - Francine Rivers, Take My Heart, O God (October 15).

He Promises...

Think a moment who  it is that promises: the God who holds the sea in the hollow of His hand; the God who swings this ponderous globe of earth in its orbit; the God who marshals the stars and guides the planets in their blazing paths with undeviating accuracy; the heaven-creating, devil-conquering, dead-raising God. It is this very God who says: "If ye ask...I will do!"                                                                    - Springs in the Valley (October 13)

He Reigns

Psalm 93:1-5 New King James Version (NKJV) The Eternal Reign of the  Lord 93  The  Lord  reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The  Lord  is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved. 2  Your throne  is  established from of old; You  are  from everlasting. 3  The floods have lifted up, O  Lord , The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their waves. 4  The  Lord  on high  is  mightier Than the noise of many waters, Than  the mighty waves of the sea. 5  Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O  Lord , forever.

He will do what is right...

Isaiah 5:9-17 New Century Version (NCV) 9 The Lord All-Powerful said this to me: "The fine houses will be destroyed; the large and beautiful houses will be left empty. 10 At that time a ten-acre vineyard will make only six gallons of wine, and ten bushels of seed will grow only half a bushel of grain." 11 How terrible it will be for people who rise early in the morning to look for strong drink, who stay awake late at night, becoming drunk with wine. 12 At their parties they have lyres, harps, tambourines, flutes, and wine. They don't see what the Lord has done or notice the work of his hands. 13 So my people will be captured and taken away, because they don't really know me. All the great people will die of hunger, and the common people will die of thirst. 14 So the place of the dead wants more and more people, and it opens wide its mouth. Jerusalem's im...

Wisdom...

“...My child, listen to your father's teaching and do not forget your mother's advice. Their teaching will be like flowers in your hair or a necklace around your neck.” - Proverbs 1:8-9 NCV

Not Giving Up...

Strengthened By God

Daniel 10:18-20 New King James Version (NKJV) 18  Then again,  the one  having the likeness of a man touched me and strengthened me. 19  And he said, “O man greatly beloved, fear not! Peace  be  to you; be strong, yes, be strong!” So when he spoke to me I was strengthened, and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” 20  Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come.

Our Sacrifice

Our hardest sacrifices are never so hard as we thought they were going to be, if  we go on with them to the uttermost that God asks. A sacrifice of self to God's will made halfway, or even nine-tenths, is a grinding, cruel experience . When it is made the whole  way, with the altar built and self laid upon the altar, God always comes with an unexpected blessing that so overwhelms us with love and joy that the hardship of the sacrifice sinks out of sight . - Springs in the Valley (October 9)

Eyes on Him

"May this be our prayer, 'I do not want to turn my eyes from you, O God. There I want them to stay and not move no matter what happens to me, within or without." - Saint Catherine of Genoa

Fearing Only Him

Genesis 22:9-12 The Message (MSG) 9-10  They arrived at the place to which God had directed him. Abraham built an altar. He laid out the wood. Then he tied up Isaac and laid him on the wood. Abraham reached out and took the knife to kill his son. 11  Just then an angel of  God  called to him out of Heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Yes, I’m listening.” 12  “Don’t lay a hand on that boy! Don’t touch him! Now I know how fearlessly you fear God; you didn’t hesitate to place your son, your dear son, on the altar for me.”

We will grow...

Ephesians 4:14-16 New International Version (NIV) 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

The Only Way

Matthew 7:13-14 New King James Version (NKJV) The Narrow Way 13  “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide  is  the gate and broad  is  the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.   14  Because [ a ]  narrow  is  the gate and difficult  is  the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Always abounding...

1 Corinthians 15:52-58 King James Version (KJV) 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

His Sacrifice

Isaiah 53:1-12 Good News Translation (GNT) 53  The people reply, “Who would have believed what we now report?      Who could have seen the  Lord 's hand in this? 2  It was the will of the  Lord  that his servant      grow like a plant taking root in dry ground. He had no dignity or beauty      to make us take notice of him. There was nothing attractive about him,      nothing that would draw us to him. 3  We despised him and rejected him;      he endured suffering and pain. No one would even look at him—      we ignored him as if he were nothing. 4  “But he endured the suffering that should have been ours,      the pain that we should have borne. All the while we thought that his suffering      was punishment sent by God. 5  But because of our sins he was wounded,  ...

He is with us...

Zephaniah 3:17 New International Version (NIV) 17 The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

It's Not Too Late

Rejoice in the Day

Psalm 118:24 The Message (MSG) 21-25  Thank you for responding to me;      you’ve truly become my salvation! The stone the masons discarded as flawed      is now the capstone! This is  God ’s work.      We rub our eyes—we can hardly believe it! This is the very day  God  acted—      let’s celebrate and be festive! Salvation now,  God . Salvation now!      Oh yes,  God —a free and full life!

Let the Light Shine

What We Are...

Ephesians 2:10 Good News Translation (GNT) God has made us what we are, and in our union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do.

Letting Go...

“If we hold tightly to anything given to us, unwilling to allow it to be used as the Giver means it to be used, we stunt the growth of the soul. What God gives us is not necessarily "ours" but only ours to offer back to him, ours to relinguish, ours to lose, ours to let go of, if we want to be our true selves. Many deaths must go into reaching our maturity in Christ, many letting goes.”   ―  Elisabeth Elliot ,  Passion and Purity

The Beauty of God

Psalm 46: 4-5 (NIV) There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not, fall; God will help her at break of day. Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.9

His Way

"When you and I desire God's best for us but become annoyed when He steps in to change the course of our lives, we rebel against the very thing we prayed for." - Priscilla Shirer. Psalm 77:13-15 Good News Translation (GNT) 13 Everything you do, O God, is holy. No god is as great as you. 14 You are the God who works miracles; you showed your might among the nations. 15 By your power you saved your people, the descendants of Jacob and of Joseph.

Our Great God

Psalm 95:1-6 GNT Come, let us praise the LORD! Let us sing for joy to God, who protects us! Let us come before him with thanksgiving and sing joyful songs of praise. For the LORD is a mighty God, a mighty king over all the gods. He rules over the whole earth, from the deepest caves to the highest hills. He rules over the sea, which he made; the land also, which he himself formed. Come, let us bow down and worship him; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.9

He Moves...

"God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform; He plants His footsteps on the sea, And rides upon the storm." - Cowper

In our need...

Isaiah 41:17-20 Good News Translation (GNT) 17 “When my people in their need look for water, when their throats are dry with thirst, then I, the Lord, will answer their prayer; I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them. 18 I will make rivers flow among barren hills and springs of water run in the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water and the dry land into flowing springs. 19 I will make cedars grow in the desert, and acacias and myrtles and olive trees. Forests will grow in barren land, forests of pine and juniper and cypress. 20 People will see this and know that I, the Lord, have done it. They will come to understand that Israel's holy God has made it happen.”

For His Glory

Philippians 1:9-11 New International Version (NIV) 9  And this is my prayer: that your love  may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,   10  so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,   11  filled with the fruit of righteousness  that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
