Wisdom & Peace

James 3 New King James Version (NKJV) The Untamable Tongue   1  My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.  2  For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he  is  a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.  3  Indeed, [ a ]  we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.  4  Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.  5  Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!  6  And the tongue  is  a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.  7  For every kind of beast and ...

God is Good

Matthew 7:11 Good News Translation (GNT) 11 As bad as you are, you know how to give good things to your children. How much more, then, will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him! James 1:17 Good News Translation (GNT) 17 Every good gift and every perfect present comes from heaven; it comes down from God, the Creator of the heavenly lights, who does not change or cause darkness by turning. 1 Corinthians 10:13 Good News Translation (GNT) 13 Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.

Sing To The Lord, All The Earth

1 Chronicles 16:7-36 New King James Version (NKJV) David’s Song of Thanksgiving     7  On that day David first delivered  this psalm  into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the LORD:   8  Oh, give thanks to the LORD!       Call upon His name;        Make known His deeds among the peoples!   9  Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;       Talk of all His wondrous works!   10  Glory in His holy name;       Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!   11  Seek the LORD and His strength;       Seek His face evermore!   12  Remember His marvelous works which He has done,       His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,   13  O seed of Israel His servant,       You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!   14  ...

Strong Enough

1 Corinthians 16:13 New International Version (NIV)   13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.

Seeking His Mighty Presence

Isaiah 64 New King James Version (NKJV)   1  Oh, that You would rend the heavens!       That You would come down!        That the mountains might shake at Your presence—          2  As fire burns brushwood,        As fire causes water to boil—        To make Your name known to Your adversaries,         That  the nations may tremble at Your presence!          3  When You did awesome things  for which  we did not look,        You came down,        The mountains shook at Your presence.           4  For since the beginning of the world         Men  have not heard nor perceived by the ear,        Nor has the eye seen any God besides Yo...

The Grace of God

Romans 5:12-17 Good News Translation (GNT) Adam and Christ   12 Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned. 13 There was sin in the world before the Law was given; but where there is no law, no account is kept of sins. 14 But from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, death ruled over all human beings, even over those who did not sin in the same way that Adam did when he disobeyed God's command.    Adam was a figure of the one who was to come. 15 But the two are not the same, because God's free gift is not like Adam's sin. It is true that many people died because of the sin of that one man. But God's grace is much greater, and so is his free gift to so many people through the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ. 16 And there is a difference between God's gift and the sin of one man. After the one sin, came the judgment of     ...

High Places

Psalm 18:33 ( New King James Version)    He makes my feet like the  feet of  deer,          And sets me on my high places.   Psalm 42:1 ( New King James Version)   As the deer pants for the water brooks,          So pants my soul for You, O God. *photographs copyright 27/11/2011 Rosie Harriott

There Is Light

There's Always Hope

Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version (NIV) 11  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. "The best we can hope for in this life is a knothole peek at the shining realities ahead. Yet a glimpse is enough. It's enough to convince our hearts that whatever sufferings and sorrows currently assail us aren't worthy of comparison to that which waits over the horizon." -  Joni Eareckson Tada

See Our Purpose

Exodus 9:16   (NKJV) But indeed for this  purpose  I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth. Corinthians 12:9   (NKJV) And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made  perfect  in  weak ness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the  power  of Christ may rest upon me.

The River of God

Psalm 65 New King James Version (NKJV) To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. A Song.   1  Praise is awaiting You, O God, in Zion;          And to You the vow shall be performed.   2  O You who hear prayer,          To You all flesh will come.   3  Iniquities prevail against me;           As for  our transgressions,          You will provide atonement for them.           4  Blessed  is the man  You choose,          And cause to approach  You,           That  he may dwell in Your courts.          We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,   ...

True Friendship

Romans 5:7-8 New King James Version (NKJV) 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Our Prayers Are Precious

"Don’t quit. You may miss the answer to your prayers. God is faithful — He’s always on time."  - Max Lucado Daniel 9:18-23 (NLT) 18   “O my God, lean down and listen to me. Open your eyes and see our despair. See how your city—the city that bears your name — lies in ruins. We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy.   19  “O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and act! For your own sake, do not delay, O my God, for your people and your city bear your name.”   20  I went on praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people, pleading with the L ord  my God for Jerusalem, his holy mountain.  21  As I was praying, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the earlier vision, came swiftly to me at the time of the evening sacrifice.  22  He explained to me, “Daniel, I have come here to give you insight and understanding.  23  The moment you began praying, a command was given...

Word Become Flesh

Acts 1:11 New Century Version (NCV) 11 They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing here looking into the sky? Jesus, whom you saw taken up from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you saw him go."

Bringing Glory To God

1 Peter 4:8-11 New Living Translation (NLT) 8   Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.   9   Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.   10  God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.  11  Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. *Photograph copyright Rosie Harriott 2011

Knowing

Proverbs 4:4-11 New Century Version (NCV)   4 my father taught me and said,        "Hold on to my words with all your heart.        Keep my commands and you will live.   5 Get wisdom and understanding.        Don't forget or ignore my words.   6 Hold on to wisdom, and it will take care of you.        Love it, and it will keep you safe.   7 Wisdom is the most important thing; so get wisdom.        If it costs everything you have, get understanding.   8 Treasure wisdom, and it will make you great;        hold on to it, and it will bring you honor.   9 It will be like flowers in your hair        and like a beautiful crown on your head."   10 My child, listen and accept what I say.        Then you will ha...

The Light of the World

Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world—like a  city  on a  hill top that cannot be hidden.

The Unshakeable

Hebrews 12:25-29 New International Version (NIV)  25 See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”[a] 27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.  28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”[b]

Our Protector

Psalm 23:1-6 New International Version (NIV) 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.  2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,  3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths    for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk    through the darkest valley,[a] I will fear no evil,    for you are with me; your rod and your staff,    they comfort me.  5 You prepare a table before me    in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil;    my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me    all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD    forever.

The Answer

Psalm 43:3-5 New Living Translation (NLT)   3  Send out your light and your truth;       let them guide me.    Let them lead me to your holy mountain,       to the place where you live.   4  There I will go to the altar of God,       to God—the source of all my joy.    I will praise you with my harp,       O God, my God!   5  Why am I discouraged?       Why is my heart so sad?    I will put my hope in God!       I will praise him again—       my Savior and my God!

He gives abundantly

"You have trusted Him in a few things, and He has not failed you. Trust Him now for everything, and see if He does not do for you exceeding abundantly above all that you could ever have asked or thought, not according to your power or capacity, but according to His own mighty power, that will work in you all the good pleasure of His most blessed will. You find no difficulty in trusting the Lord with the management of the universe and all the outward creation, and can your case be any more complex or difficult than these, that you need to be anxious or troubled about His management of it? Save My Soul

Ephesians 2:8-9  (NIV) 8  For it is by grace you have been saved , through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  9  not by works, so that no one can boast.

Submitting to Him

Job 22:21 New International Version (NIV)   21  “Submit to God and be at peace with him;     in this way prosperity will come to you.

Walking With Friends

"Associate with others who are walking in the right way... Those who have drawn close to God have the ability to bring us closer to him, for in a sense they take us with them."   - Teresa of Avila Amos 3:3 - Two people will not walk together unless they have agreed to do so.  *photograph copyright 2010 A.G.
